Audi is
presenting a revolution in the top class ¨C the first 12-cylinder diesel
engine in a high-performance roadgoing sports car. It is powered by a
twin-turbocharged 6.0 litre V12 diesel and
generating 500 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The engine is a
60-degree V12 that is somewhat related to Audi¡¯s R10 endurance racecar to two
outright victories at the Le Mans.
With this power unit, Audi is writing a new chapter in diesel technology. The
R8 TDI Le Mans embodies superb road handling, pioneering technology and
fascinating design with the Audi expertise in its motor sport activities.
Its highlights include the new chain drive layout that includes the two newly
developed high-pressure pumps for the common rail injection system. The
diesel-powered supercar complies with Euro 6
emissions standards that take effect in 2014. Its sound is as thrilling as you'd expect in a sports car
of this caliber. For all the subtle smoothness that typifies this design
principle, the twelve-cylinder unit is full-bodied and equipped with
energetic overtones that make no secret of its performance potential.
